Ok, I think I finaly figured out the exact paid attendance number.
It was widely advertised by Madison House that $2.00 from the sale of each ticket was to go to Grant Township for road improvements. In an article that was in the Muskegon Chronicle yesterday and posted on this board, a representitive from Grant Township said they recieved a check for $60,404.00 from the festival for road improvemnets. So assuming the Madison folks kept thier word, by dividing $60,404.00 by two gives you 30,202 tickets sold or a paid attendance of 30,202.
Anybody have any comments or corrections to my theory?
That is just paid attendance, who knows how many hundreds or thousands they had working. I think thge Security firm had 1200 people there and I couldn't even guess the amount of people that signed up to man the trash cans, do parking and such. The $2 was automatically included in the ticket price, so it wasn't an elective like the "Green" tickets. The fixed amount per ticket was in the agreement Madison House made with Grant Township.
this definitely makes a lot of sense.. Obviously there were more peope there (bands, crew, staff, security, people who snuck it, etc etc) but it's a great estimate for how many tickets we're actually sold.
I want my soul to feel brand, brand new Like a fresh coat of paint, we can make it anything but blue
I was at Sarstock in toronto where there were 490,000 in attendance. I was amazed at how they put it together because it didn't feel like 490,000 people. I thought it would get rowdy but it didn't. The headliners were RollingStones and backed up by AC DC. And they sold tickets for this all day event for $20.
"Do the next right thing, not the next thing right..."
Well it was for charity and 100% of the proceeds was supposed to go to the relief fund for the Sars outbreak (I'm sure all my american friends saw that outbreak covered in the news) but I'm not sure how much the Stones got. They were the ones who actually planned this benefit concert. It was Mick Jaggers brainchild. Noone at the time (including me) would travel to toronto during that crisis to visit. It was scary!!
"Do the next right thing, not the next thing right..."
that's a good assumption, although people like me who purchased a ticket and weren't able to make it should be taken into account. though, i doubt many had the problems i did
as for bonnaroo this year, i thought the 60k was perfect! after being there for 80k, there was definitely an improvement on getting closer to the stage, and just walking around in general. i was very pleased.
i do think ACL should reduce their numbers a bit, though
4/27-28 Nocturnal Festival 5/1 Roger Waters "The Wall" 5/25 Rusko 5/31-6/3 Wakarusa 6/28-7/1 Electric Forest 7/19-22 All Good
Looking through pictures and figured I'd post one of Woodstock '99. This is from about 3/4's back lol. It was a mess of a festival but being in that huge of a group at 17 y/o was pretty awesome looking back.
