VIP? Was it worth it? « Thread Started on Jul 7, 2008, 7:30pm »
We really wanna go VIP next year, and we are looking to hear how it went. Do you think that it was worth the extra cash? What about the viewing areas? Good?
Hope everyone had a great time and made it home safe!

For the VIP area at the Odeum, it was definitely worth it. We were on an incline so viewing was good. The drinks were cheaper. The shuttles were handy if you didn't feel like walking. The VIP area at the Ranch Arena was shaded but that's all it had going for it. We stayed in the Bunkhouse so I don't know what the VIP camping was like (she who must be obeyed doesn't do camping).

vip camping was a little dead compared to GA, but there were still some partiers. a lot older crowd...
thankfully i didn't pay for vip, i just used my vendor bracelet in combo with my purple bonnaroo bracelet (which looked eerily similar to roth's VIP ones, apparently) to get in whenever.

I thought VIP was well worth it. We camped in the trees. Slept late w/o the sun on the tents. Sounds like a bird sanctuary in the AM. VIP entrance with MUCH lighter checks. A huge one is the CLEAN restrooms. In VIP, the restrooms are in the backs of trailers and resemble a small restaurant restrooms. Showers, viewing areas, cheaper beer, separate car entrance.
I was concerned if it would be worth it, too. I'll be doing VIP again.

When I was watching Trey on the hill a guy walked up next to me with radios and stuff. I saw him come from the VIP viewing area. Because I saw all the radios and he wasn't wearing your typical security garb I asked him what his job was. He said he was a "Host" in the VIP area. His company was contracted to set up the VIP thing. I asked him if VIP was worth it. His reply was that his company does this at many fests and he thought that this year at Roth was the worst VIP he's seen in a long time. He said you didn't get much except the discount drinks, and showers, but he said they couldn't keep hot water hot because of everyone showering around the same time and there were allot of angry people. However he did say that next year if they got the contract would be well worth it to go VIP. He didn't say why it would be worth it though.

Perks to VIP: - Hot showers (most of the time- sometimes you would get spurts of cold water, but who cares- it felt good & who complains about actually getting a shower) - Flushable, air conditioned bathrooms (which were very nice. everyone said best bathrooms they have ever seen at a festival that i talked to) - Bigger camping spots - Close proximity to the stages (shorter walks= more shows & you can still hear the ones you don;t make it to) - Cheaper drinks & relatively no lines - Shade at Ranch stage - Shade, couches, tables and chairs at Odeum - Free shuttle all day to Odeum - No strip searches at the Odeum stage when getting off the shuttle - No traffic, different route to get in venue - Option of camping either in the woods or in the sun - Close to Shakedown & festival row of food vendors

Cons to VIP: - Cannot bring guests back to tent/camper - More mellow than general camping - No cheaper food deals - More cops (or whatever they were) on horses. They met in VIP everyday for shift change and then hung out and talked, and I saw them constantly (but they didn't harasss people, so...) - Older crowd & family camping area in back (nothing wrong with this, but could be a con to some) - No really special perks

It would've been nice if they'd let us know about the shuttle, cabs, and Odeum entrance before hand. Hell, even some the cabbies didn't know about the Odeum entrance, and no one ever told us about the shuttle van until we left in it on Sunday night! I'd thought it was strictly for Good Life passengers... oh well.
All in all, I'd say it was worth it... but just barely. It'd be nice if they did a thursday night pre-party next year in the Odeum VIP... even 1 night of free food would go a long way towards justifying the ticket price, maybe even have one of the smaller or acoustic performers play.

We arrived through the south entrance after not being able to find the north entrance. We parked in the back corner of the general lot and got out to look for the VIP section. After walking a while we found it and the guy there with the golf cart was nice enough to drive us all the way back to my car, and then led us on a special route right past the bathrooms & shakedown street into the front entrance of the VIP lot. On the ride with the guy to my car, he was driving us real fast right through the mass of people and past the line of 30 portopottys they had set up on shakedown, and just as we pass one a girl walks out of the porto and he runs over her foot!!! He stops and she goes "Ahhh! My foot! (Yelling at the driver) Fortunately for you I am wearing my rubber rain boots and it didn't hurt!" Ha ha ha!!! He jetted off and we were all laughing pretty hard about it.
That was pretty cool.
Pros to VIP: Everything except the cons.
Cons to VIP: An older, quieter crowd (I'm only 23). Having the VIP routes adds to the confusion of not knowing where to go because you have 2X the number of ways to get to your campsite. I got lost on two if not three nights. One night I was walking in the far corner of the VIP lot and thought I was in the general lot... I realized where I was once I walked past the bathrooms, and was amazed to find I was actually in the right lot.

I just figured some numbers $10 day for showers- 40 $5 shuttle (x2 times day)- 40 $15 extra for normal beer cost ($3x5)- 60
Total costs for perks would have been 140 versus the 250 we paid. But, we were closer to everything, had more room for camping, and special areas (which were far from the stages) at 2 stages.

No strip search? Then No thanks! he he.
Thanks that answers alot of my questions! I thought there would be better viewing areas for sure though

There were special areas at both the Odeum & the Ranch, but not Sherwood. They were NOT closer to the stage, though. But- you did get shade. The viewing area for VIP at the Odeum was on a hill. It was okay, but your butt and legs hurt after doing the balancing/sitting sideways act all weekend. You could see the stage and artist okay from the Odeum. From the Ranch VIP area, you could barely see everything. I mean it wasn't horrible, but I like to get up close!

I LOVE GA! I will never pay the extra money to go VIP and Tiga! thanks for breaking the money end of things down for us! Thats prime information for everyone here.
what I will be doing next year is purchasing one of those portable shower stalls made by coleman or whoever..... then the shower can be used by everyone (Hopefully everyone who wants to use it brings bladders of water.....) and also I saw a guy who had a little porta pottie set up in it. At night when its 4-7am and you don't want to venture out too far to the porta potties, you can park your butt there and then take the removeable bag to the garbage bins they had set up! I am ok on that one! (Just as long as I don't forget all weekend to remove that bag.....

I'm glad others agree with me that GA camping is the way to go! Even if I was a millionare I would still camp in GA. I feel like it's more fun and there's more partying. And maybe it's bad but it totally doesn't bother me to not shower for those 4 days... I keep lots of baby wipes on me to wipe down with, and deoderant numerous times a day, but showering just seems pointless in my book. The first time I went to Roo I was convinced I would DIE without a shower for that long, but once I got there I forgot all about trying to be cute.
That being said, I apologize if I was sweaty and gross but I wouldn't do it any other way! Drew, Claire, a4, if my hugs to you guys were stinky I'm sorry
